Kirk Douglas – Navy

Throughout his 64-year career, Douglas has starred in close to 100 movies. The 101-year-old box-office star was a leading actor during the ‘50s and ‘60s and is among the last surviving actors of the Golden Age of the film industry. Before getting into acting however, Kirk served his country in the military. He served as a Navy Lieutenant in World War II before becoming a communications officer for submarine warfare. In 1944, Kirk was discharged from the military after which he embarked on building a career in the entertainment industry. He became an actor, producer, author and director. He founded the production company known as Bryna Productions in 1955 and produced several films including Paths of Glory as well as Spartacus. Kirk Douglas has also received several honors and awards both for his service in the military and his contribution in entertainment. He is certainly a true legend.
